Since September 2024, the American authorities have introduced new security regulations for all air cargo shipments to the USA, which go far beyond the existing regulations and are very difficult to implement in practice or can only be implemented with reservations. The new regulations are listed in the ACAS – Air Cargo Advance Screening – Implementation Guide. Australia has also followed such enhanced measures.
The first new measures have already been implemented by the carriers, which include the submission of a signed document/form while delivering cargo “ready for carriage”, the template of which varies from airline to airline. In addition to content-related concerns, this procedure leads to considerable higher workload.
IG Air Cargo Switzerland is already in contact with IATA and FIATA examining whether and how they intervene with the US authorities against these measures, both those already introduced and those still planned. IGAC is also endeavoring to implement a standard to ensure that such measures are equally be handled in Switzerland.
