e-AWB 360 starting in Basel as of March 01, 2017
After the successful implementation of the new e-AWB process in ZRH (APR 2016) and GVA (OCT 2016) the time is right now for its implementation at the EAP. The following 12 IATA member airlines plus some other carriers are taking the lead to implement the electronic air waybill (e-AWB) for their air freight shipments: Air Canada, Air France-KLM, American Airlines, British Airways/IBERIA (IAG), Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabian Airlines, and SWISS.
These airlines are switching over to e-AWB as their preferred means of shipping cargo to all destinations by implementing the jointly defined SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) including the e-AWB Single Process at EAP airport, effective 1 March 2017. The new e-AWB process eliminates the need for the paper AWB and replaces it through electronic messages. Decreasing the handling and delivery time for airfreight, the e-AWB process will improve efficiency and reliability, as well as have a positive effect on the environment.
According to IATA the global penetration has reached 40.5 % in August 2016 and 21.4 % in Switzerland (EAP: 29 %, GVA: 21.1 %). ZRH: 24.6 %. The EAP has already now occupied the leader position in Switzerland and with the successful implementation of e-AWB360 with the single acceptance process the goal could be put to reach 50 % by end of 2017?!!? We are convinced that these figures will globally increase and pave the way for a completely paperless process as provided in future via the transaction platform of e-freight Switzerland of IG Air Cargo Switzerland and SPEDLOGSWISS.
